The Betty and Romunda Herman Foundation is the official charity for Re'Nique Publishing and Author LaToya Geter.

Betty Williams and Romunda Owens, the late grandmother and mother of Dr. LaToya Geter-McElroy, shared the surname of Herman. Romunda was a Pre-K educator in the Little Rock School District for 20-plus years until retirement. Betty Williams volunteered in Romunda's classroom and LaToya's classes.

LaToya chose to establish the Betty and Romunda Herman Foundation to assist with the educational and social development of pre-kindergarten students.

The partner class is Ms. Crystal Owens' Pre-K Class at Rockefeller Early Childhood Center in Little Rock.

Our Supportive Efforts

Educational Support

Our annual Back to School Drive assist teachers and administrators with poviding supplies for students. Literacy Awareness is one of our significant initiatives. We provide books during the month of September and throughout the year to Pre-K students.

Social Support

Our social initiatives help support the educators and families of students. Our goal is to help the educators and families with making holidays and occassions a positive experience and memorable for a lifetime.

Foundation Initiatives Since 2022

Back to School Drive

The Back to School Drive was our first initiative. The Betty and Romunda Herman Foundation sponsors Ms. Crystal Owens's classroom. The foundation accepts monetary donations and items to help provide the necessary supplies for the classroom.

Literacy Awareness

Since 2022, the foundation has promoted literacy awareness by donating books to students. Dr. LaToya Geter-McElroy participated in Read Across America in 2024 by reading to students at Rockefeller EEC.

Christmas Toy Drive

During Christmas, Betty Herman provided her family with Christmas gifts. LaToya’s favorite holiday is Christmas. She cherishes the memory of Romunda telling her to leave Santa Frito chips and a Coke. Re’Nique Publishing and Author LaToya Geter are the official sponsors of the Betty and Romunda Herman Christmas Toy Drive.

Thanksgiving Baskets

The foundation began to fund Thanksgiving baskets in November of 2023. Non-perishable food items are donated to students' families.

Valentine’s Day Treats

The foundation supports positive friendships in the classroom by providing teddy bears and treats to add to the Valentine’s Day parties held at school.

Special Occassions

In 2024, the foundation began to sponsor special occasions. Members of the Theta Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha, and community members helped the foundation sponsor outfits for the Pre-K Under the Sea Sneaker Ball Prom.
